UWA HIRES BO SCARBROUGH AS DIRECTOR OF HIGH SCHOOL RELATIONS
MARCH 13, 2025 - BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA

Scott Cochran, the newly hired head football coach for the West Alabama Tigers, has added former Birmingham Stallions and Alabama Crimson Tide running back Bo Scarbrough to his staff. Scarbrough was announced Thursday as the Director of High School Relations for the West Alabama football program.
Cochran was announced as head coach for West Alabama on February 3 this year. He has wasted no time assembling his coaching staff for the upcoming 2025 season with many familiar faces to the Alabama fanbase. Scarbrough will join former Alabama student-athletes Damion Square, O.J. Howard, Blake Sims, Ronnie Clark and Thomas Fletcher, who will all be on Cochran’s coaching staff this season.
Scarbrough is no stranger to the Livingston area, as he attended high school an hour up the road in Tuscaloosa at Northridge and Tuscaloosa County before transferring to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, for his senior season. A consensus five-star recruit, Scarbrough committed to Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide and played 34 games during his three-year career for the Crimson Tide (he redshirted in 2014). Over his three seasons as a backfield member at UA, Scarbrough accumulated 1,512 rushing yards on 267 attempts, averaged 5.7 yards per rush and found the end zone 20 times in his career. He also added 21 career receptions for 131 total yards. In his time at UA, Scarbrough was a part of three SEC Championships and two College Football Playoff National Championships. Scarbrough’s collegiate legacy is widely remembered for his stellar play late in 2016. In the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against Washington that season, Scarbrough rushed for an Alabama bowl game-record 180 yards and scored two touchdowns on his way to being named the Offensive MVP. During that National Championship Game nearly a week later, Scarbrough continued his dominant postseason play with two rushing touchdowns and 93 total rushing yards against the Clemson Tigers. Scarbrough exited the game early due to breaking his right fibula.
On January 10, 2018, Scarbrough elected to forgo his final season of collegiate eligibility and entered his name in the 2018 NFL Draft. Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys selected Scarbrough with the 236th overall pick in the seventh round of the draft that season, as Scarbrough was one of 12 Alabama players drafted that year. Scarbrough spent his rookie season in 2018 on the practice squads for the Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks. He would start his first career game in the NFL the following season in 2019 when he was playing with the Detroit Lions. After a meniscus injury to Madison Academy and Auburn alum Kerryon Johnson opened up an opportunity for Scarbrough, the tailback made the most of his Week 11 start against Dallas, finishing the day with 55 yards on 14 attempts and a touchdown against his former squad. Scarbrough finished the 2019 season with Detroit and returned to the roster in 2020, but unfortunately battled injuries throughout the season and was waived in late October 2020. Scarbrough returned to Seattle’s practice squad and made an active roster appearance in a Week 11 pairing against division foe Arizona Cardinals to provide depth to Seattle’s backfield. After a brief stint with the Las Vegas Raiders during the 2021 training camp, Scarbrough returned home to Alabama on May 9, 2022, when he signed with the Stallions halfway through the team’s inaugural season. In his six games played during the regular season, Scarbrough totaled 352 yards on 84 carries and had one lone touchdown. He was a monumental piece in the Stallions’ win over the Philadelphia Stars in the 2022 USFL Championship Game, as he carried the ball 13 times for 135 yards and two touchdowns. After missing most of the 2023 season due to injury, Scarbrough originally planned to return to the active roster last season but chose to retire from football on March 8 last year.
