BIRMINGHAM SQUADRON TO HOST HBCU NIGHT

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA - January 23, 2025

The Birmingham Squadron, NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, will host HBCU Night presented by Cricket Wireless on Saturday, January 25, when the Birmingham Squadron take on the Indiana Mad Ants at 6 p.m. CT inside Legacy Arena at the BJCC. Other promotions that will take place on Saturday are $2 domestic beer, gifting of a $500 donation to a nonprofit of choice to whichever Greek organization brings the largest group and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a complementary Birmingham Squadron crossbody bag.

“HBCU Night presented by Cricket Wireless is always an important night for us at Legacy Arena at the BJCC,” said Leslie Claybrook, Birmingham Squadron general manager. “Alabama is the state with the most HBCUs in the nation and we are proud to honor the great traditions and culture of these institutions on Saturday night.”

During intermission on Saturday, members of the Wenonah High School Mighty Marching Dragons Band will provide entertainment for fans in attendance with a halftime show on the playing court. Under the direction of Fred Jones, the Mighty Marching Dragons will also perform from the stands for the duration of the game.

The state of Alabama is home to many HBCU institutions, and fans and alumni from every HBCU school in the state and region are invited to celebrate the vast pride, history and traditions of excellence that HBCU schools have displayed through the years. The city of Birmingham is home to its own HBCU institutions in Lawson State and Miles College. Additionally, the annual Magic City Classic between the two largest HBCU schools in the state, as Alabama A&M and Alabama State battle it out on the gridiron at Legion Field every football season.
